API & Authentication

Secure Key & Token Authentication

Trello uses a secure Developer API Key and API Token system to authorize Konnectify. This setup allows Konnectify to safely manage your boards, lists, and cards on your behalf while keeping your account credentials private and secure.

To establish a connection, you will need to input your API Key and API Token. This gives Konnectify the necessary permissions to read and write data according to the triggers and actions you define in your workflows.

Workspace Plan Note:

Your Trello Workspace's administrative settings govern webhook creation and board management limits. Ensure your Trello user profile has sufficient administrative privileges to create boards, invite members, and add webhooks before configuring your integration.

For detailed technical documentation on credential generation and workspace security, please refer to the official Trello Developer Platform Documentation.

How to Connect

Prerequisites:
  • An active Trello account with administrative access to the target boards.
  • Your unique Trello Developer API Key and a generated API Token (found in your Atlassian account settings).
1

Add Trello to a Workflow

Log in to your Konnectify dashboard, navigate to the workflow editor, and drag Trello into your canvas as either the trigger application or an action step.

2

Authorize Connection

Paste your Trello Developer API Key and API Token into the secure authentication prompt inside Konnectify. Click "Connect" to establish the API bridge.

3

Configure the Trigger or Action

Choose your specific trigger event (e.g., card creation) or target action (e.g., list archive). Map dynamic data fields from preceding steps to your Trello fields.

Configuration Check: Make sure your board IDs and list IDs are configured correctly. We recommend selecting IDs from the dynamic dropdown menu rather than hardcoding static text values.
4

Test the Workflow

Run a test inside Konnectify to simulate the data exchange. Verify that test cards, comments, or checklists populate correctly on your Trello board.

5

Activate the Workflow

Once the test passes, toggle your workflow to "Active." Konnectify will now run this integration continuously in the background.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I locate my Trello API Key and Token?
You can generate your Developer API credentials directly from Trello's developer settings page while logged into your Atlassian account. Copy your Developer API Key, and then follow the link on that page to generate a secure, long-lived API Token.
Are all Trello subscription plans supported?
Yes. Konnectify integrates with Trello Free, Standard, Premium, and Enterprise plans. However, some administrative actions (like adding workspace members or managing organization boards) might be restricted by Trello depending on your plan tier and account permissions.
Are the Trello triggers instant or do they poll?
All 28 triggers in this integration use Trello's native webhook network. This means Trello pushes data to Konnectify the exact millisecond an event occurs (such as card movement or new comments), resulting in real-time workflow execution.
How can I prevent duplicate card creation?
To prevent duplicates, insert a "Get Card" action at the beginning of your workflow to search for an existing card ID or title. You can then use a conditional step to only execute "Create Card" if no matching card is retrieved.
What rate limits apply to Trello API connections?
Trello enforces a standard rate limit of 300 requests per 10 seconds per API key. If your workflows perform bulk updates (such as updating dozens of checklists simultaneously), Konnectify will automatically queue and retry requests to safely stay within limits.
Can I connect multiple Trello accounts to Konnectify?
Yes. You can authorize multiple Trello accounts within your Konnectify credentials manager. We recommend giving each connection a clear, distinct name (e.g., "Trello - Marketing Team" vs "Trello - Dev Team") to make workflow building simple.
What is the difference between a Workspace and a Board in Trello?
In Trello, a Workspace (referred to as an Organization in our trigger/action list) is the top-level container where teams and projects live. Boards are individual visual project spaces situated inside a Workspace. Our integration provides specialized triggers and actions for managing both structures.
