API & Authentication

Secure OAuth 2.0 Store Authorization

Shift4Shop utilizes a secure OAuth 2.0 authorization framework to link your store with Konnectify. This ensures that Konnectify can securely interact with your product catalog, orders, and customer databases on your behalf. Your raw administrative password is never exposed, stored, or transmitted during this process.

To establish a connection, you will need to provide your Store URL (optional, but recommended to route requests correctly), your Public Key (Client ID), and your Secret Key (Client Secret). These keys authorize the REST API queries required to search, create, update, or remove resources dynamically inside your storefront.

Plan & Access Requirements

REST API access must be active on your Shift4Shop plan. If you are using a legacy or restricted store account, make sure you have enabled the REST API module inside your Shift4Shop administration panel before attempting to link your keys.

For comprehensive details on rate limits and advanced field structures, consult the official documentation: Shift4Shop Developer REST API Portal →

Frequently Asked Questions

How does Shift4Shop authenticate my connection?
Shift4Shop uses a secure OAuth 2.0 protocol. When linking your store, you will input your Public Key (Client ID) and Secret Key (Client Secret) generated in your Shift4Shop merchant panel. Konnectify uses these keys to fetch an access token, ensuring your store credentials are never exposed directly.
Does my Shift4Shop plan support API integrations?
Most standard Shift4Shop plans include access to the REST API. However, some basic, legacy, or customized plans may have restricted API capabilities. We recommend checking your Shift4Shop billing dashboard or contacting their support team to verify your REST API module status.
Are there real-time triggers available for Shift4Shop?
The current version of the Shift4Shop integration focuses on action operations, allowing you to create and update records programmatically. To trigger workflows based on Shift4Shop store events, you can utilize scheduling features or use other connected apps to run queries.
How can I prevent duplicate orders or customer records?
When setting up your workflows, map unique identifiers like the Shift4Shop Invoice Number, Order ID, or Customer Email address. By using search actions such as List Customers or List Orders before pushing updates, you can check if a record already exists and avoid duplication.
How does Konnectify handle Shift4Shop API rate limits?
Shift4Shop limits the volume of REST API calls allowed within a given timeframe to protect storefront performance. If your workflow encounters a rate limit error, Konnectify automatically schedules retry attempts using an exponential backoff strategy until the request is completed.
Can I connect multiple Shift4Shop stores to Konnectify?
Yes. You can authorize and manage multiple Shift4Shop store connections inside your Konnectify credentials tab. Simply repeat the authorization process for each distinct store, ensuring you enter the correct Store URL, Public Key, and Secret Key for each instance.
What is the difference between an Order Key and an Invoice Number?
Inside Shift4Shop, the Order Key is a system-generated database ID used by the API to reference a cart or order record. The Invoice Number is the shopper-facing identifier (e.g., AB-1004). Actions like Get Cart require the Order Key, while order-related updates can accept either identifier depending on the specific action configuration.
