API & Authentication

OAuth 2.0 Authorization Connection

Okta uses OAuth 2.0 to securely connect your organization's directory to Konnectify. This authorization flow redirects you to your custom Okta domain to authenticate, allowing Konnectify to perform directory actions on your behalf without ever seeing or storing your master administrator credentials.

The integration leverages Okta's Core API to securely read, write, and update users, groups, and application assignments in real-time.

Administrative Requirements

Ensure your Okta administrator account has the necessary super admin or application admin privileges to authorize OAuth scopes. API rate limits are determined by your Okta organization's subscription tier.

For detailed endpoint specifications, refer to the official Okta API Reference Documentation.

How to Connect

Prerequisites
  • An active Okta organization domain (e.g., your-company.okta.com)
  • An Okta Administrator account with permission to manage OAuth applications
  • Your Client ID and Client Secret from your Okta Developer Console registration
1

Add Okta to a Workflow

Open your Konnectify workspace, create a new workflow, and select Okta from the application directory.

2

Authorize via OAuth 2.0

Enter your Okta Domain (excluding https://), along with your Client ID and Client Secret. Click authorize to redirect to the Okta login portal and grant access permissions.

3

Configure the Action Fields

Select your desired directory action and map the corresponding payload fields (such as email, profile names, or group IDs) from your workflow source.

Note: When configuring user activation, ensure target users are in a STAGED or DEPROVISIONED status to avoid API processing errors.

4

Test the Workflow

Run a test action in Konnectify to verify that Okta processes the API request correctly and successfully updates your target user, group, or application.

5

Activate the Workflow

Once testing is successful, toggle your workflow live to enable hands-free directory management and synchronization.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does Konnectify connect to Okta securely? ▾
Konnectify uses OAuth 2.0, which redirects you to your own Okta domain to authorize the connection. This ensures Konnectify never handles or stores your master administrator password.
Which Okta plans are compatible with this integration? ▾
This integration works with all Okta Workforce Identity Cloud plans that have API access enabled. Please consult your Okta administrator to verify your API permissions.
Are there any real-time triggers available for Okta? ▾
Currently, this integration is action-focused, allowing you to update Okta users, groups, and apps from other systems. To trigger workflows from Okta events, you can use our generic webhook listener connected to Okta Event Hooks.
How does the integration prevent duplicate user profiles? ▾
Before creating a new user, you can use the "Search User by Email" or "Search User by Login" actions to check if the profile already exists, allowing you to run conditional logic.
How does Konnectify handle Okta API rate limits? ▾
Okta enforces rate limits based on your organization's plan and API endpoints. If a rate limit is reached, Konnectify automatically pauses and retries the action once your rate limit window resets.
Can I connect multiple Okta organizations to Konnectify? ▾
Yes. You can authorize multiple Okta connections within your Konnectify account, allowing you to manage users across dev, staging, and production environments.
What is the difference between Okta-managed groups and App-imported groups? ▾
The "Create Group" and "Update Group" actions apply specifically to Okta-managed groups (OKTA_GROUP type). App-imported groups (APP_GROUP type) are automatically synced via their respective application imports and cannot be modified directly through these actions.
